Come join us for an exciting Parish Mission, presented by the Marian Fathers of the Immaculate Conception at Corpus Christi on March 11, 12 & 13. Our speaker will be Fr. Dan Cambra, MIC. The Mission will be on the Message and Devotion of Divine Mercy. For more information, please call the Parish Office at (813) 988-1593. Admission is free.
Something new that we will be offering at Corpus Christi are Collective Mass Intentions on one scheduled day each month. Mass Intentions are part of the tradition of our Church in which an “intention” is usually announced for a person either living or deceased. While the Church usually allows only one Mass Intention for each Mass, there is also the option of a Collective Mass Intention in which several intentions may be accepted for a particular Mass as long as those requesting the Mass Intention are aware. Our Mass book fills up very quickly, so this is an opportunity to have someone, either living or deceased, remembered during a liturgy.
Today we will hear Luke's account of the Beatitudes. Luke's version is more challenging that Matthew's, the one we usually hear. You see, Luke's "blesseds" are immediately followed by complementary "woes" that are, well, not at all complimentary. As we listen to today's Gospel, let us ponder which ones most closely apply to our lives.
The Collect for the Fifth Sunday of Ordinary Time:
O God, who teach us that you abide in our hearts
that are just and true,
grant that we may be so fashioned by your grace
as to become a dwelling pleasing to you.
Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son,
who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
one God, for ever and ever.
Why is the Collect important? As we gather for the Liturgy of the Eucharist, we come together with thoughts and prayers on our own minds that we offer to the Lord. After the community has made a confession of sins and proclaimed their Glory to God, the presider calls for us to pray. The Collect gathers all of our unspoken thoughts and prayers and presents them to God the Father in liturgical language that reflects our Catholic theology and beliefs.
